About ISPI

Mission

The Mission of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is to increase productivity in the workplace through the design, development, application and evaluation of systems, methods and materials to improve human performance and instruction.

Objectives
  • To raise the profile of performance issues in the community
  • To provide leading-edge resources on performance to members
  • To provide programs that focus on workplace practice and on issues in the area of performance

History

The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) is an international professional body which caters for professionals in the field of instructional design and performance technology.  Founded in the United States in 1962, ISPI represents almost 10,000 members in 23 countries world-wide. Amongst its members are well-known figures in instructional technology such as Robert Gagne, David Merrill, and Roger Kaufman.
 

Previously known as the National Society for Performance and Instruction (NSPI), the name of the organisation was changed in 1995 to better reflect its international membership and its broader perspective on performance issues.

The Melbourne Chapter of the National Society for Performance and Instruction (NSPI) was launched in 1991, following the establishment of the Sydney Chapter and the first Australian NSPI Conference in 1990.
